Adam Proteau: Stars have struggled, but goalie trade would put them in great position The Stars were the best team in the Western Conference last season, but they've been hurt by injuries and disappointing play this year. Still, they're only two points out of a wild card berth. And if they can break up a goalie platoon that isn't working – by acquiring a veteran such as Ryan Miller or Semyon Varlamov – Dallas could easily be a strong team and bona fide Stanley Cup contender by the time the playoffs roll around.

Hi Adam,

I really enjoy your blogs. As infrequent as they, they're always well thought out and relevant. I live in Vancouver but I watch just as many Stars games the last 2 seasons. In a sense, it's incredible they are where they are in the standings. John Klingberg has been a tire fire on D. They've really missed Sharp's offense, specifically his ability to get pucks on goal. But I would argue the biggest hole is Mattias Janmark's speed. As strange as that sounds, they're nowhere near as fast this year and that's gotta be Jim Nill's priority.

I agree the goalies are awful, but they were awful last year too. I wouldnt make a big trade for Bishop or MAF, because they're not a significant enough upgrade for the price they will command. I would consider bringing in Miller or Ward for a pick or prospect, but this team needs some speed, and that would elevate them back atop the standings lot quicker than an upgrade in goal.

I look forward to the next one
